Woman President
I was watching TV this weekend and channel surfed into a discussion on MTV about the upcoming elections. I did not catch all of it but the discussion was about the Democratic candidates and who was going to vote for whom. A person was talking about how they were a devoted Democrat, yet if Hillary won the Democratic primary they would vote Republican despite their opposition towards the party. This person made a quick comment saying "It just wouldn't be right to put a woman...." and then the camera cut them off. The wording wasn't exact but it was quite obvious that this young person was going to comment that a woman should not be president. How do you all feel about this. We are at an age where we are able to make an informed and aware decision that can really make a difference in this situation. To me it seems quite outdated to think a woman should/could not be president, but evidently there are people in our age group that think this.

While I am definetely an Obama proponent, I wouldn't jump ship from my party if Hillary were the Democratic candidate. I think the country is just as ready for a woman president as they are for an African American president. However, I do understand some fears concerning a woman president due to the situation in Iraq. Iraq as a whole has an entirely different perception on the status of women than we do here in America; thus, I think it could be a dicey situation electing a female president at this time in history. However that is our current president's doing not Senator Clinton's. Whatever the outcome of the election may be, I am glad Senator Clinton is paving the way because for the next woman and all subsequent women running for the highest office in our country, she is taking the blows so they have to take less, and eventually I think we will erase the gender and race lines that bar the way to the presidency.
I don't think that it is so much people would abandon Hillary simply because she is a woman. I think that people dislike her so much is because she goes against the gendered/stereotyped view of what women should be. A lot of people who are against Hillary do not like her because of her labels like a feminist, or outspoken, or too masculine. I think because for too many people she goes against the grain of what is expected/accepted standards of femininity. I think that is where the problem lies.
I think Hillary supporters should stop focusing on her GENDER, since it has nothing to do with ANYTHING, and focus on the REAL reasons she is losing support. By just jabbering blindly about whether or not her gender matters, which to most youg men and women's standards mean NOTHING, have a discussion about how she lied about ducking sniper fire, supported the iraq war and then took her words back, how she has used attack campaigns more than ANYONE this campaign and who has repeatedly rudelt interrupted other debaters but also the debate moderators. She is a woman yes, but that is a shade pulled over peoples eyes to miss all of her crappy ethics and behavior that have caused her to ruin her own run for office. People could handle a woman president, and people who couldnt based on gender are all out in the turd/armpit areas of America. WHy are idiots opinions the ones that people talk about and not those who dont argue over petty gender issues related to HIllary and instead talk about her shady campaign? Let her keep using her gender to secure her tiny electoral support. Obama is running away with this thing
I think the right women could run this country. Personally though, I don't think we have come across the right woman yet. One could easily argue that we have not had the right man in office yet either.
I am a huge supporter of getting women in office. I fully believe in their ability to intelligently lead this country. My concern, however, lies in the men of this country. I am not sure men would be supportive enough to work with a woman in office. I don't think we should give up the fight to get a woman in office but I think we should be careful who we nominate. When a man does a poor job in office, we just vote in a new man. I think if a woman does a poor job in office unfortunately, it could potentially set back the entire movement because people can fully embrace the "I told you this would happen" attitude.
i definitely think that a woman is fully capable of being the president. But I think that people are looking to deep into the issue of race and gender in the case of this election. Lets stop focusing so much on that and instead focus on what is coming out of their mouth. Sometimes I feel like during this election people are primarily focusing on this gender and race issue and not really paying any attention to what the candidates stand for. To me, their platform and what they stand for and what they plan to do for this country should be much more important than what age, race, or gender they are.
